SpeedStep

In the default installation of your Hackintosh, SpeedStep is disabled because of the NullCPUPowerManagement.kext that is installed. There is however a way to get SpeedStep back, if you wish to have it. I’ve tested this myself and it doesn’t affect the rest of your system (or how NullCPUPowerManagement.kext/Disabler.kext function). Just copy the VoodooPowerMini.kext to /System/Library/Extensions/ on Macintosh, repair permissions and reboot. To check its working correctly, you could use boot flags “-v” (without quotes) and check for output mentioning SpeedStep management.

Follow these steps:

  1. Download the kernel extension. (VoodooPowerMini.kext)
  2. Copy and paste the extension to /System/Library/Extensions/
  3. Run the following commands in Terminal.app:
sudo -s
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions
touch /System/Library/Extensions
diskutil repairPermissions /System/Library/Extensions

You can now reboot. SpeedStep should be enabled on your next boot.

    1. Logically I’d say yes, I see no problems why it shouldn’t work. But I’ve not had any chance to test, so try at your own risk.
